Akron Bicycle Club
The Akron Bicycle Club is a recreational bicycle touring club. We encourage others to become interested in bicycling as a fun, healthful, safe sport for both adults and children. The Club was formed in 1965 as an association of dedicated recreational cyclists who wanted to ride with others for companionship, support, and to learn more about the sport. ABC members range in age from adolescents to senior citizens. We live primarily in Summit, Medina, and Portage Counties (NE Ohio) with a sprinkling of members from other nearby counties. We have both beginning riders and experienced, seasoned riders. During the primary cycling season of April through September we offer 6 or so regular weekday and evening rides, and 3 or 4 rides every weekend. Weekend rides vary in routes and distances, and generally include 2 longer rides plus an ice cream ride on Sunday afternoons. We possess over a hundred different routes on the many rural county roads and parks in the region, so there is plenty of variety.
Cleveland Touring Club
1998 Sunday in June
Cleveland Touring Club is a group of approximately 200 noncompetitive recreational cyclists who ride in the eastern counties of Lake, Geauga, and Cuyahoga. Our emphasis is on group fun and physical fitness, and our riders include a wide range of ages and riding abilities from the faster riders (all ages), to people in their 20's through 80's that enjoy a variety of paces and styles of riding. We offer single and family memberships and sponsor an organized ride every June (Sunday in June) that attracts 400-500 riders from around Ohio. Our Sunday/weekend ride schedule runs from April through October and we also offer weekday evening rides on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays starting at various east-side locations. All riders ride at their own pace, and you'll often be able to find someone else who rides at your speed.
Lake Erie Wheelers
We are a recreational cycling club with membership predominately on the West Side of Cleveland. Our membership is varied but our most active members are in their 40s to 50s and are 70/30 male/female. We sponsor rides on weekends and weekdays and offer something throughout the year. Most rides are located in western Cuyahoga, Lorain, and Medina counties, though we try to vary the routes to include other parts of Ohio. We have fast groups and those who are more deliberate, tell us how you like to ride and we will direct you to an appropriate group. During the summer, we have monthly 'bikepath' rides where we encourage family attendance. We have an active touring group that organizes self-contained overnight rides in many parts of the US and Europe.
